Gulping garoyles! Halloween is fast approaching which means stylish costumes, themed parties, and delicious delectables. One beverage that I'm sure you'll find available this season is butterbeer. This drink is the non-alcoholic version, but is still quite tasty. So while your waiting for your Hogwarts letter to this weekend's celebration at the Three Broomsticks mix up a pint of butterbeer. If you're hosting a party, I'm sure that serving this will get you 10 points for Griffindor! Ingredients: MIXTURE 1 cup brown sugar 2 tablespoon water 5 tablespoon butter 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon apple cider vinegar 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream 1/2 teaspoon vanilla (or rum) extract CREAM 1/3 cup heavy whipping cream 2 tablespoons of mixture DRINK 1/4 cup mixture 12 oz cream soda top with cream FYI...I, personally, think that IBC Cream Soda tastes best with this recipe. Here's a link for it:

I feel I have definitely reached adulthood now that I can properly make skillet potatoes:) It's just one of those dishes that takes a few tries and some finesse. So here are some tips to help you to achieve this feat. I discovered you need oil and butter and high heat to get your potatoes crispy and keep that great taste. It also takes some patience. Cook your onions until you get that carmelly-look going. Also make sure that your green peppers are your last item as they will get mushy and lose their beautiful color if cooked too long. As for your meat, you can use whatever you have...ham, bacon, kielbasa, or even ground turkey. This can be a great option if you have some leftovers to use up from a baked potato dinner, or like me, you can make extras for such a meal as this. Spices are all up to you! I personally like the southwestern flavor that cumin adds. Finally, fry up that egg to your liking in the same skillet for maximized flavor and top with your cheese of choice. With this hearty start, you're bound to have a wonderful day! Ingredients: 3 baked potatoes 1/2 onion chopped 1 green pepper chopped precooked sausage (or meat of your choice) seasonings of your choice parmesan or cheddar cheese 1 fried egg Thankfully you don't have to be Swedish to make or enjoy this scrumptious brunch option. We first ate these pancakes with my husband's best friend who actually is Swedish. They are a lot easier to make than I had originally thought, even easier than regular pancakes! But there's even more fun....with the toppings. Real lingonberries are the most legit, but if you don't have any....jam or other berries work well too. Nutella is a hit with just about anyone and since they roll up nicely, they actually travel well and are a good finger food. If you're feeling some health guilt, throw in some fruit to go with it. Our other creations included....peanut butter and banana, cinnamon and sugar, and maple syrup. Later we decided chocolate chips thrown in while still on the skillet would also be delicious. Just make sure to include lots of butter....and sprinkle that icing sugar on top for a professional finish! Avnjuta! Ingredients (makes 5): 2 eggs 1/2 cup milk 1/2 cup flour A dash of salt Let's be honest...I had you at "Bacon wrapped..." We all love bacon, but it's not always the fanciest looking breakfast item. And wrapping anything around an egg has always seemed too daunting to me. Well, here you have EASY, FANCY, and TASTY all in one dish. How do I know? Because we actually made this BEFORE work on a Friday morning. It's the perfect individual serving (or you can eat 2 like I did), and it can even be eaten on the go if you bake it for the suggested amount. If you prefer your yolks a little softer, cut your bake time down to 15 minutes. This is definitely going to be in my brunch repertoire, and I hope you'll put it in yours. Impress without stress! Ingredients: Bacon Bread Eggs Cheese Directions: Preheat oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit Cook bacon in medium heat until slightly brown (but not crisp) Butter a muffin tin Flatten bread with a rolling pin, cut out circles, and put into muffin tin Line muffin tin with bacon Crack egg into muffin tin Top egg with cheddar cheese, and any seasonings you wish Bake in oven for 15 to 20 minutes. If you would like a runny egg, then aim for 10 to 15 minutes. Let cool for 5 minutes. Enjoy! |
