This was my attempt to make crispy McDonald's fries, but were darker than I wanted. However they were DELICIOUS as well as crispy! They may not look McDonald's-esque, but they are restaurant style french fries that you can make at home. The key to having a crispy outer shell, yet soft interior, is the sugar-water coating. Some people have used corn syrup AND sugar, but I try to limit the amount of sugar. If you want to know how to make french fries the right way, try out this recipe and enjoy! Ingredients: 2 to 3 Russet potatoes 1/4 cup sugar 2 to 3 tablespoons beef tallow Water Oil Salt Cut fries to about 1/8 inches in size. Soak fries in sugar water (helps to give a crispy outer shell). Refrigerate in your sugar water solution for 10 minutes. Dry off fries, then fry for 90 seconds. Pat dry and refrigerate 30 more minutes. Add beef tallow to vegetable oil, and fry for 5 minutes. Drain, salt, and serve immediately.
