I LOVE a gyro sandwich. The mixture of lamb and beef mixed in with a few spices just makes my mouth water for that succulent Mediterranean dish. Growing up as a kid I went to a great burger place called Jeff's Red Hots where they served the perfect Gyro Sandwich I've ever had. Since then I've been wanting to make my own homemade gyro meat, and now I've done it! I wish I didn't wait so long to do this. It was fantastic. I didn't have a rotisserie, but by baking and then frying I was able to mimic the way a gyro is cooked. If you want a more compact meat, then I suggest you place something heavy directly on your gyro to compress it as it bakes. I hope you enjoy this video as much as I did...especially afterwards! This video will be part of a series that shows you how to make your own gyro sandwich including the pita bread and tzatziki sauce. I'll include links below. Ingredients: 1 onion quartered then chop it in a food processor 2 to 3 tablespoons of minced garlic 1 pound ground beef 1 pound ground lamb Add pepper to taste 2 to 3 teaspoons salt Thyme Rosemary Paprika Cumin Parsley Process until pasty Put mixture in a bread pan and compress meat as much as possible Bake at 250 degrees Fahrenheit for one hour Cool off then refrigerate for 3 hours Fry on one side Flip Then Fry until brown Top with tzatziki sauce on a pita bread Enjoy!
